Balance & Vestibular Rehabilitation

Poor balance and vertigo may be due to an inner ear problem.

Physical Therapists specialize in a type of therapy called Vestibular Rehabilitation to improve poor balance and dizziness. Physical Therapy for vestibular disorders takes many forms. Exercises are used to train improved balance in a safe manner. Special hands on techniques administered by the therapist stimulate the brain to resolve problems in the inner ear. This is called Canalith Repositioning. Other hands on techniques improve the ability to visually focus. In addition, general exercise is prescribed to improve overall physical health and well-being.

Some conditions that may be helped with Vestibular Rehabilitation:

  • BPPV – Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
  • Post Concussion Syndrome
  • Vestibular Neuritis
  • Labyrinthitis
  • MDDS – Mal de Debarquement
  • Dizziness
  • Motion sensitivity
